Site:  Showalter Middle School, Tukwila.  4640 S. 144 St.  From North, take Southcenter Blvd exit. Turn right at light onto Southcenter blvd/S 154thand head west on 154th to light at 42nd ave S.  Turn right onto 42nd ave S, continue right on 42nd ave S until light on 144th – turn right (east) on 144th and go 1 block and Middle School is on your left.  Note Foster HS is in the same area and don’t be confused and go to the high school – we are in the Middle School, east of the high school.  From south, take 188th St. exit, head west to Highway 99, turn right, head north to S 144th, turn right, go past 42nd Ave. S, past Foster HS and the Middle school will be on your left just after you pass the high school.  Lost – call (206) 794-6010.

Eligible:  Open to any student in grades 6-12

Format:  : Five rounds, computer-paired.  In 4 sections: 1300 and above, 1000 - 1299, 800 –999, and  799 and below (including unrated).  Note, we may change these rating breaks depending on registrations received.  Please note on entry form if you want a specific section.  Students may play in higher sections if desired.  Note, no separation between HS and MS/JHS.

Schedule:  Register by mail, e-mail or FAX.  100% pre-registered tournament:  All pre-registered teams must check in no later than 9 a.m. to play in the first round.  Players' meeting 9:20.  Rounds: 9:30, 11 a.m.; 1, 2:30, 4 p.m.  Awards by 5:15 p.m.

Time Control:  Game/30 (G/25 5-second increment).  Recording of moves required until one player has less than 5 minutes on the clock, then both players may stop recording.  Touch-move rules apply throughout entire game.

Rated:  Washington Scholastic Rating System (WSRS).  No memberships required.

Bring:  Sets, boards, clocks, writing utensils, competitive desire.  Please do not come unequipped to WHSCA tournaments!  Please make sure you bring enough sets for each player. 

Awards:  A generous set of trophies and medals will be awarded.   A note – this year team trophies will be awarded across sections, rather than inside of sections.  WHSCA staff felt this would be more equitable and not penalize teams for having diversity in rating. 

Concessions:  Concessions unclear at time of publication.  Bring food to be safe.

Advance Entries:  $8 per player, received by December 12th (or paid Saturday morning at check in).  No registrations on site.  FAX option: Coaches may register teams by FAX to 425-921-4040 through 6 p.m. Friday Dec. 12th.  Payment in full for all faxed entries is due Sat a.m. before those players may compete.  Entry forms not necessary – provide player name and WSRS ID and school if different than ID code.  Ratings not necessary – we will look them up.  E-mail option: Registrations may be e-mailed to kwinges@comcast.net through the 12th.
